In your kitchen cabinet, you’ve probably got a spray bottle with an adjustable nozzle. If you twist the nozzle one way, it sprays a fine mist into the air.
You twist the nozzle the other way, it squirts a jet of water in a straight line.
You turn that nozzle to the exact position you want so you can wash a mirror, clean up a spill, or whatever.
If the universe had expanded a little faster, the matter would have sprayed out into space like fine mist from a water bottle – so fast, a gazillion particles of dust would speed into infinity and never even form a single star.If the universe had expanded just a little slower, the material would have dribbled out like big drops of water, then collapsed back where it came from by the force of gravity.
A little too fast, and you get a meaningless spray of fine dust. A little too slow, and the whole universe collapses back into one big black hole.
The surprising thing is just how narrow the difference is – the fine tuning of the Big Bang.
To strike the perfect balance between too fast and too slow, the force, something that physicists call “the Dark Energy Term” had to be accurate to one part in ten with 120 zeros. If you wrote this as a decimal, the number would look like this:
0.000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000 0000000000000000000000000000001
In their paper “Disturbing Implications of a Cosmological Constant” two atheist scientists from Stanford University stated that the existence of this dark energy term would have required a miracle… “An unknown agent” intervened in cosmic history “for reasons of its own.”
Just for comparison, the best human engineering example is the Gravity Wave Telescope, which was built with a precision of 23 zeros.
The Designer, the ‘external agent’ that caused our universe must possess an intellect, knowledge, creativity and power trillions and trillions of times greater than we humans have. Absolutely amazing.
Now a person who doesn’t believe in God has to find some way to explain this.
One of the more common explanations seems to be “There was an infinite number of universes, so it was inevitable that things would have turned out right in at least one of them.”
The “infinite universes” theory is truly an amazing theory. Just think about it, if there is an infinite number of universes, then absolutely everything is not only possible… It’s actually happened!
It means that somewhere, in some dimension, there is a universe where the Chicago Cubs won the World Series last year. There’s a universe where Justin Bieber becomes President of the United States.
There’s even a universe where Elvis kicks his drug habit and still resides at Graceland and sings at concerts.
Imagine the possibilities!
I might sound like I’m joking, but actually I’m dead serious. To believe an infinite number of universes made life possible by random chance is to believe everything else I just said, too.
Some people believe in God with a capital G.
And some folks believe in Chance with a Capital C.

Dear perry, I think that whole universe is controlled by a unique and only a unique equeation also think it’s a supper cycle. The gradients of this cycle are Sole, MindS and MaterialS .Sole represents the supper energy ,materials represents the earthy energy and minds link between the two. The creator of the equation is GOD/ SUPPER POWER.
This is just the “argument from ignorance” fallacy in another of its many guises.
First, you misinterpret what the physicists meant by “unknown agent”- it is nothing but your own unfounded assumption (from the standpoint of evidence, anyway) that some supernatural intelligence fixed the universe’s “constants.” The real point of that paper, anyway, was to suggest that the entropy of the universe is finite; that will be cold comfort to believers as we cruise into heat death, which will itself be many billions of years after our own galaxy collides violently with the Andromeda.
Second, you compound this assumption by saying “a person who doesn’t believe in God has to find some way to explain this.” That is not at all the case: it might well be that such a person would be curious about it, or even get a physics degree in order to examine the concept further. But speaking for myself and, I’m quite sure, a great many people who simply have not been convinced of the existence of a god: I don’t feel I have any burden of “proof” to convince anyone of anything, much less do I need an explanation for the latest unanswered question of the physical world, of which there is an evidently endless supply.
I have no particular assumption about a god, unlike you; it’s just that I find the possibility enormously unlikely, and have never seen any evidence of its existence. You, on the other hand, argue that it exists, and so I submit that it’s up to you to explain this to us.
All you’ve offered though, is some version of “we don’t understand [insert unknown here], therefore it all came from god.” This is a nice way to affirm previously-held beliefs. But you are just seeing what you want to see.
Hi Terry:
Why are you so hostile to that you know so little about. The most proved law of science,Thermodynamics came straight out of the Bible and was founded by men who believed every word of it. No evolutionists has ever found a law of nature, it is not a coincidence.
“The real point of that paper, anyway, was to suggest that the entropy of the universe is finite; that will be cold comfort to believers as we cruise into heat death, which will itself be many billions of years after our own galaxy collides violently with the Andromeda.”
The Bible predicted the heat death thousands of years ago.
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Here is the comfort only Christians enjoy.
2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Lord Kelvin Thermodynamics
“Thus we have the sober scientific certainty that the heavens and earth shall ‘wax old as doth a garment,’ and that this slow progress must gradually, by natural agencies which we see going on under fixed laws, bring about circumstances in which ‘the elements shall melt with fervent heat.’ With such views forced upon us by the contemplation of dynamical energy and its laws of transformation of dead matter, dark indeed would be the prospects of the human race if unillumined by that light which reveals ‘new heavens and a new earth.'” [Good Words, 1862]
You have decided the Bible is not true without learning what it says, is that logical?
sir,
about the infinite universe theory, a doubt comes to my mind. i have heard that there are parallel universes where the present is different because some point in history had taken a different turn, and hence for every point in history, there must exist a parallel universe. so in turn, there must be a way to go to any of these universes. there must also exist, infinite universes, which were formed at a later date than ours and following our course of history, so that in those universes, the Jurassic era might be continuing now. all i want to know is what you think about these propositions!!! it is really fascinating to know that there may be life in any such universe, and probably humans, and an earth where the environment is not so degraded.
Richard,
At the risk of being called a bigot, I am going to:
1. Continue to believe in God.
2. Continue to believe in the immensity of the unknown universe beyond the observablilty sphere.
3. Continue to deny the Big Bang which I have “decided” to be an illusion perceived by all observers anywhere in both the known and the unknown universe.
4 Continue to refuse to put labels on people other than their name.
These are matters of Faith, and I have not seen arguments that have ever dissuaded me.
A question:
As the universe ages, do we observe further out or are we confined to what is already known?
Thanks for your comments.
Paul
the greatest evidence to the fact that GOD exists is that everything and everyone has a creater. a watch can’t just apper by itself but is made by someone in a factory.
Q. Is our Moon and the other planets of our Solar System act as a guard to our Earth from the outer celestial object coming towards the Earth?
*(This question is come to my mind because in general the picture of the Universe is like that, that so many small and big objects are always moving randomly with a very high speed throughout the Universe but it is very rare that one of that objects strike our Earth significantly. Yes it is true that so many asteroids are recovered from many places but there is no any remarkable, destroyable collision with our Earth. But the Moon has so many craters which may be as the result of the collision of the outer celestial object. so is it possible to assume that the Moon and the other planets of our Solar System act as a guard to our earth.)*
thank you Perry Marshall for your educational video. I tells lots of things…
i beleive in God . i beleive the sufism philosophy. if u let me i want to share the main idea of that philosophy
Platon has started the roots of Sufism…
According to sufism, the unvierse is unique. This uniqueness is God, God comes from the eternity and goes to eternity. God was present before time and space and will be always present. God involves all the beaturies, favors, maturites inside. Before Before God with his beauties lightened his universe, but there was nothing to see this beauty- the beautiful things should be seen- and the God, like looking to a mirror( MIRROR IS İMAGINARY HERE, NOT REAL ) looked at the nullity and created the universe. The whole thing in the universe is a reflection of God, and of course the human being is a reflection of god, a part of God. When the God turns his back to mirror everything will be gone. This imaginary universe will disappear, only God will remain…
The question we have to ask now is: if the universe is a reflection of God that has the beauties favors… inside, than Where do bad things come from?
The answer to that question by sufism philosophers is: All the things occur with their counters. when the order had been given by God to form the universe the properties od God occures and the porperties of nullity occured İf there were no bad things how can we understand the good things? Good things are the behaviours of God but the bad things are imaginary and temporary.
So the beleivers of this philosophy do not need money. A piece of bread and one cloth is enough for them. They have one mission to reach the God. There is a very big love in their heart .Everything temporary but God. so they try to reach God. reading all the books that came, going to church, mosque.. and praying is insufficent wheater people dont give themself to ‘ THE LOVE OF GOD’, They cant reach the God… it is the unity consciousness.
THANKS FOR READING
I read your comment it seems you love God but tell me is there any link between God and Gods creation?what is that link?there is no doubt One God has created every thing but God ,who is super super intelligent would Have given any directions to His creation to be connected to Him….
creation from it self cannot generate theories how to make there God happy but they actually are dependent on Gods direction or instructions .what is our purpose of creation ? what is required from us?

Dear Alyssa,
Though I agree with you in that all have the right to believe in what they want I must ask you: What is important: to know what anyone thinks of God or to know what God really is?
I think that though man-made creeds may be good at bringing peace and hope to many they are only that: man-made creeds and have nothing to do with God himself and with the truth of His existence. Therefore it becomes expedient to know not what man think or what the generations have taught but what God himself wants to show us. Because if all mankind would look to God for answers about His existence and attributes it is impossible that two would received different answers! If every man and woman on earth look to God for answers he, or she, will find the same God, with the same attributes and perfections, with the same plan of happiness and with the same promises and blessings. Therefore, why are there thousands of different religions with totally contrasting ideas if not because of man’s unbelief? God does not meant that.
Every religion has its intrinsic good deeds, but are they not a shadow of the true religion, that is, the belief in the true God?
Maybe you will ask, what is then the true religion? I would say that which was established by God himself through His personal ministry and that is guided by His own voice. Then you could ask: and where is that religion? I will therefore testify to you that there is such religion upon the earth today and that no one can show you where it is but God himself, cause no matter how much I say, you won’t believe unless you get a witness from heaven and receive it with the sincere desire to know more.
If you want to know more, I can tell you where and how to find such answers.
Dear Christiano:
All one has to to do is look at the orderly universe to see that it was created by an orderly God. It is just wishful thinking to say that all religions worship the same God. Buddhism has no God, the Hindus have 30 million, the New Age movements believe the earth is God, pantheism., Islam believe in a capricious God who hates the Jews and Christians [and all non Muslims} and Judeo-Christianity’s God loves the Jews , the Christians , the Muslims ,the Hindus ,the atheists etc. etc. So He is not the same God and He makes it plain the ONLY way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. To say all religions are equally valid is the exact same thing as saying they are equally invalid.
Only one can be true.
What is the name of God?
Allah
Allah means the god.
Hello, Perry.
I am Romanian. I have graduated from the Faculty of English language in Bucharest and have been a translator and interpreter for many years now. Therefore, I have absolutely no training in physics or other such subjects.
But I am curious about these things, always have been.
Thanks a lot for this initiative of yours, which enables the likes of me to get a ‘common sense’ understanding of these abstract notions which sometimes seem very difficult for the ‘uninitiated’ to grasp.
My question is:
If there was an infinite number of universes and things turned out ‘right’ in just/at least one of them, this means that the others expanded either a little too slow, or a little too fast, making it impossible for a universe like ours to come into existence. Consequently, even if there were an infinite number of universes, things in ‘those other’ universes would be completely different from how they are in ours. How could we then find in those universes persons/things/situations similar to those in ours only with different outcomes, etc.
I am aware that I may have missed something/lots of things… but could you please explain?
Two other things I find impossible to understand/grasp:
– The idea of ‘infinity’, of the lack of a beginning or an end;
– The existence of an ‘initial’ universe which expanded at a certain speed to allow ours to come into existence. What, then, of the idea that we were created out of nothing. This ‘initial’ universe is not ‘nothing’, so where did it come from, who created IT?
Sorry, my questions may sound very stupid or childish, but since you have expressed your ‘availability’, I thought to take advantage…
Thanks a lot. You are doing an absolutely GREAT JOB for us ‘mortals’ in such matters.
Anca
Anca,
If there were LITERALLY an infinite number of other universes, then all imaginable situations would be real.
The extreme fine tuning of the universe we live in is often explained by a saying the reason we are so “lucky” is simply that we happen to find ourselves in a very rare universe that turned out well.
Notice that this theory requires an infinite number of complex, non-observable and non-provable elements in order to be true. Making it the least simple and most complex imaginable explanation. A flagrant violation of “Occam’s Razor” which states that the simplest explanation is usually the best.
Atheists retort that “God” is no simpler and that God as an explanation is also a violation of Occam’s razor. They would say that God is just as complex and non-observable as all those other universes.
Well the first thing I have to say about that is that their theory of infinite universes lies outside of science. Since those universes are by definition un-observable. So while theologians openly acknowledge that God exists outside the realm of science, atheists are somewhat reluctant to admit that their explanation is also non-scientific.
So you get to choose: A non-scientific materialistic explanation or a philosophical / theological explanation.
God is one being. God is simple, as Aquinas said. One infinite uncaused cause. God has no beginning and no end. This has been the theological position for at least 5,000 years.
An infinite number of universes is literally infinitely complex.
So on the issue of complexity, I think you’ll agree that “ONE” is much more simple than an “INFINITE” number of universes.
By the way, notice that the atheist still has not explained where the infinite number of universes come from, or what caused them. So he has not yet begun to solve his problem.
The idea of infinity or lack of a beginning or end: In mathematics, infinity is something that is approached, not something that is attained or quantified.
I submit to you that the only thing that is limitless is God. Everything else is finite and contingent on God.
“The initial universe” – perhaps there could have been one but we cannot detect it, since according to Einstein’s theorems space and time both begin and the moment of the big bang and there is no “before.” Time as we can observe it stops at that point. Perhaps there are other universes with other time lines but we cannot experience them.
All these things still have to have an uncaused cause, somewhere along the way.
We have a choice: An uncaused universe or an uncaused creator. But every material thing we have experience with has a cause. So I say the uncaused cause is God.
By the way these are not childish questions. These are THE ultimate questions and even 5 year olds are smart enough to ask them.
Perry
Dear Alyssa,
One thing that puzzles me is why people look towards man to explain God? Why when confronted about the attributes of God people will come with: “Judaism differs from Islam and from Hinduism and from such and such”? It is logical that men are different; that is why each religion is divided in many sects and beliefs. But the question is: (1) was God the author of such divisions? (2) if He was not, what is the true will of God?
The answer to the first question is NO. God is not the author of such divisions. Why not? Because of the simple fact that we cannot exercise faith, or belief, in an inconstant being. How do we know that God NEVER changes? Just observing the world we live!
Have you ever seen the sun turning back in the sky? Or the rain falling upwards? No! Every property of nature is unchangeable and apples will fall no matter how many you cast up. Even when we speak about exceptions, we are speaking of lesser laws and greater laws. I will not proceed on that, but for the purpose here you can see that there are fixed laws upon which you can exercise faith. If nature’s law are immutable why would God be “suited” to the needs of each man? No! He isn’t! And therefore we must find out what is the answer to the second question.
If God does not change and to all things a law was given, then there must be a law to which we must attain ourselves in order to know Him and gain His favor. But what is that law? Turning back the pages of History we will see ourselves in that very day when God placed man upon this earth, then He taught personally the principles of the Gospel to Adam and Eve, and gave them the means for their safe return home. He also ordained them to teach their children freely and to bring them up in light and truth.
Then we see Cain making covenants with the Darkness and falling from the grace of God, we see many who followed the same path, becoming carnal, sensual and devilish. We see many Prophets preaching the true and living God like Adam, Seth, Enoch, Methuselah and Noah, we see the waters coming upon the earth and the world being cleansed; we see a new beginning and the covenant being renewed with the seed of Noah, we see father Abraham looking in the face of God and receiving promises far greater than we can imagine.
After Abraham we see the people of the covenant forgot their God and become subject to the Egyptian, we see a deliver, a mighty man called Moses, who saw God face to face and brought His people back. After him we see many Prophets being called and the people straying from the living God from time to time.
We then see in the meridian of times Christ coming into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. We see him preaching the Gospel of God, restoring the keys and authority, baptizing many, we see miracles and the dead raised, and then we see him bleeding from agony in the Gethsemane, we hear his pleas on the way to Calvary, we see his pain on the cross until finally he gave up the ghost. We then see he risen from the dead on the third day and the joy that filled Mary’s hearth. We see him appearing to Peter, to the Twelve and then to more than 500 before His ascension into heaven. We see the Apostles struggling to keep the church pure but persecution and internal divisions blocked its progress.
We then see many years of darkness and confusion while thousands lived and died in complete misunderstanding of God. We then see the clouds beginning to disappear we see a boy stepping into the grove to seek inspiration, we see the heavens opened and God the Father and Jesus Christ appearing to the boy Prophet. We see angels coming from heaving bringing the keys, power, authority and knowledge, from Adam until the last Prophet who lived upon the earth, all restoring their dispensations upon the heads of mortals again.
We see a temple built and Christ’s approval of His house, we hear His voice saying that through Him and for Him were the worlds created. We see Apostles of God being called again and going forth in power and majesty to carry the message to all the world and we hear the voice of God and angels and thousands of hosts attending their prayers in behalf of God’s children. We see the Gospel being taught to all nations and the people being prepared to that great day.
Those are visions of the past, now we can look into the future and see turmoils and wars, and the world trembling and mighty rail falling upon the earth and the elements melting as with fire and then, the sign of the Son of God. We see the veil being rent and the throne of our Father and Christ descending with the Holy City and with his thousands of angels and the righteous ascending to meet him in the clouds and to fall upon their arms and to kiss each other and to meet those who have long passed away in a fullness of joy that is incomprehensible to us now. We then see His kingdom been established upon this earth and peace resting for a thousand years and then we see the earth being transformed and becoming an inheritance to those who will be not only Sons of God, but gods themselves.
I can testify to you that all that I said is true. Even if you don’t believe it, that is true. Even if all the world does not believe it, that is still true. Because I want? No! But because God revealed that from Heaven. Maybe you would ask: How do you know it is true? Because there are Prophets again on the earth. And this is not all. Do ye not suppose that I know of these things myself? Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that these things whereof I have spoken are true. And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety? Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me. I say unto you, that I know of myself that whatsoever I shall say unto you, concerning that which is to come, is true; and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus Christ shall come, yea, the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace, and mercy, and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh to take away the sins of the world, yea, the sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on his name.
This is my witness and I bear it to the world.
All Muslims believe in God ant they believe that all prophets have been sent by God to show the people the right path to God Almighty. I sow the presentation and it was really fantastic and gives direct facts to us. The message from God to all of us is to worship God Almighty. MY question or comment how can we work in that and help people to follow God instructions because at the end there are two places either paradise or hell> It is our mission now to guide the people to the real life.
Hi Akran:
The Muslims and the Christians do not follow the same God. The God of the Muslims is capricious ,he can do anything. The God of the Bible delights in making promises and keeping them.
The God of the Bible loves the Jews .
Hello Charnok
The God of Muslims and Christians is the same. He was One, is One and will remain One.it is the question of who recognizes Him in His entirety. We Muslims believe that God of Moses and Jesus (Peace be upon them) is the same God who sent Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) as His last messenger to all mankind. In my opinion, our (Muslims) belief is in totality and accepts prophets of all times whereas other religions dont. This makes Islam all encompassing
Yes, the God of Bible was delighted in making and keeping His promises only the Jews didn’t reciprocated and perhaps it was the reason that God sent His last messenger from Arabs and not from the Jews. you should think on this line some day, for a change.
Oneness of God is also proved by the very fact which Mr Perry Marshal is trying to prove, the existence of God. what would happened if the God of the Christians and the God of Muslims were two different God. Obviously this universe wouldn’t have been the way it is now. The reason why is it in this unbelievably believable shape is only due to this fact that there is none but only One God. Now who recognizes Him in His entirety has got the salvation and eternal peace. For rest one can only pray that they come to accept the true faith, too. ameen
Dear Ali:
Allah is caprricious , The God of the Christians and Jews is not.
Jesus Christ is the God of the Christians. He became a man to die for our sins. Islam teaches , without a shred of historical evidnce, that Jesus ascended without ever dying and will return to kill the Christians and Jews.
And if any Jews escape they will hide behind rocks and trees and Allah wiill give voice to the rocks and trees and they will callout, Oh Muslim pursuer there is a Jew hiding behind me , come and kill him.
The God of the Jews and Christian’s loves the Jews [and the Muslims} Allah loves the Jews and Christians dead.
9.5] So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
[9.30] And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!
Why would you claim Islam is the true faith and that we all worship the same God? That makes no sense at all Ali. One of us is wrong, there is only one God and we both don’t worship Him.
Why do most of us need to “know” where we came from, and
who / what did the transport ?
It still does not answer important questions :
Contemplate the following :
1. We were always “here”
2. We “made” ourselves
3. We were created out of nothingness by a “something”
None of these are acceptable to our “limited” minds.
Therefore , “forget it”, and apply ourselves to the DO ABLE !
Hi Ben Sobin :
Why do you propose number 3?
God created matter from nothing. Just because I cannot bring God down to my level of understanding is no indication He does not in fact exist. To say that would only prove my arrogance.
There is no other possibility because otherwise matter created itself and therefore pre-existed itself.
Life is based on complex coded information that has a specific purpose and invokes a specific action. Languages do not write themselves and information does not arise by itself from matter.
regarding infinite number of universe. I absolutely agree with you and would like to ask you what are your comments about This Quran Ayah (verse) which is a proof of your statement:
chapter 1,verse1″ALHUMDULLILAHI RABB IL ALAMEEN” which means”Praise be to Allah The cherisher and sustainer of the Worlds”
Dear: shamid:
Is it not true Allah is capricious? That he can do anything? How does that trait fit with a perfectly ordered universe?
sir,how can you call universe infinite?
I never said it was, and I don’t believe it is.
Yes GOD is there, HE is omni present in the form of sound ie.OM as our religious scriptures have said. As Quantum Physicist George Johnson in his article in Nov.2001( New York Times ) has rightly pointed out that every atom emits sound ie. SUB ATOMIC BUZZ. He is working in right direction. I Wish him GOOD LUCK.
ABRESHIT BARA ELOHIM ET AH SHAMAIM VEIT AH ARETZ ( THE FATHER OF THE BEGINNING CREATED THE ELOHIM, THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH ).
not Breshit bara elohim ( gods ) et ah shamaim veit a aretz ( In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth ).
Do not convert the hebrew name elohim (gods) to a singular english word god, also it should not be capitalized. Our society then was polytheistic ( many gods ).
Abba ( Our Father ) is the pure “Spiritual Energy” of Vibration.
El – singular male form Eloha – singular female form Elohim is the pural form.
HI,
Wher does this soul(all the living things) comes and where it goes?
The soul is created by God. Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”
