Where did the Universe come from?
Part 1: Einstein’s Big Blunder
100 years ago, Albert Einstein published three papers that rocked the world. These papers proved the existence of the atom, introduced the theory of relativity, and described quantum mechanics.
Pretty good debut for a 26 year old scientist, huh?
His equations for relativity indicated that the universe was expanding. This bothered him, because if it was expanding, it must have had a beginning and a beginner.
Since neither of these appealed to him, Einstein introduced a ‘fudge factor’ that ensured a ‘steady state’ universe, one that had no beginning or end.
But in 1929, Edwin Hubble showed that the furthest galaxies were fleeing away from each other, just as the Big Bang model predicted. So in 1931, Einstein embraced what would later be known as the Big Bang theory, saying, “This is the most beautiful and satisfactory explanation of creation to which I have ever listened.” He referred to the ‘fudge factor’ to achieve a steady-state universe as the biggest blunder of his career.
As I’ll explain during the next couple of days, Einstein’s theories have been thoroughly proved and verified by experiments and measurements. But there’s an even more important implication of Einstein’s discovery. Not only does the universe have a beginning, but time itself, our own dimension of cause and effect, began with the Big Bang.
That’s right — time itself does not exist before then. The very line of time begins with that creation event. Matter, energy, time and space were created in an instant by an intelligence outside of space and time.
About this intelligence, Albert Einstein wrote in his book “The World As I See It” that the harmony of natural law “Reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection.”*
He went on to write, “Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe–a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.”*
Pretty significant statement, wouldn’t you say?
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s installment: “Bird Droppings on my Telescope.”
Respectfully Submitted,
Perry Marshall

A tale-At first it was nothing, it was just the word and the word was everything!
it ordered the dust to gather and to accumulate and to turn and turn, the movement of universe still continue until now. The essence of its whole was DNA and the power of movement of electrons and protons and replications was according to His majesty. During 6 days the earth completed full of creatures, it was impossible to have a programmed mutation due to environmental hazards that change one species to the another. The human was named the best, but still he has not known completely even a cell, he is weak against a little virus with incomplete RNA, and when try to kill a little blind insect , insect may found another way and understood his will….. So weak is human and so self-satisfied, satan beleived!!!!
Dear Perry:
A while back, after reading a few of the latest posts, I contributed a post in which I commented that I was reminded of an Alexander Pope’s quotations, namely: “A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing!”.
After reading about twenty of the latest posts I am reminded of another quotation, this time from an arc over the main gate to our local mad-house, namely: “Nor all who are here are (mad), nor all who are (mad) are in!”.
Cordially,
Hèctor
Hi,ALL
when i was little girl, i asked question from my parents, where is my GOD?
all of them said that ” all around the world”,now
i believe that God is intelligent , powerful, lovely, kind, …
i believe that God is all around the world,
i believe that God is in my heart,
i believe that God’s laws are surrounded univers,
and now
my Nephew ask me “If God is present everywhere,God will exist in my Apple also?!”
what do you answer to this question?
do you think God exists in Apple?
I think God is everywhere.
What do you think about Islam’s point of view that says about the creation of time, space and every thing almost 1430 years ago which scientests are now discovering, it is said in the Holy Quran: “Then turned He (Allah{God}) to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto the earth: Come both of you, willingly or loth, they said: We come obedient.” (Chapter 41; Verse11)
In another place in the Holy Quran again it is said: “Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one peice, then We parted them, and We made every living thing of water? Will they not then believe?” (Chapter 21; Verse 30)
Yasar,
I do not disagree that the Quran contains numerous accurate cosmological statements.

i would like to know about black hole, supernova, dark matter and dark energy?
You can easily find answers to these kinds of questions with a Google search, Wikipedia etc.
Hai, Sir
Let me first introduce to you about me.I am an 8th grader a high school student. I have deep intrest in this particular field of Astrophysics, Physics, Spacescience, Cosmolgy and everything based on it. I have a doubt in Einstein’s theory of relativity. Could you just explain to me about it.
hi, fatima
you can find usefull videos in physics and astrophysics on youtube
Hello Perry
Interesting stuff. But me 2 have a question. I wonder how it comes that Hubble shows us pictures from galaxies 15 billion lightyears away, so; from the early beginning of the universe. Then, a half year later; again pictures from galaxies at 15 billion lightyears away, but now in the opposit direction!!! With us in the middle it means that those two galaxies are 30 billion lightyears away from eachother!!! Right at the beginning after the Big Beng!!! And if that big was the beginning… than where are those galaxies bij now??? Can we ever catch up?
Please Perry, set me free, let me sleep again. Thanks…
Thijs
Perry, you should give a talk at TED about this – they all seem to worship Darwin and this would be a breath of fresh air.
Sir,I am from India and I am very much intersted in knowing the origin of universe.I have a QUESTION that when BIGBANG occur then particle are generated within few seconds but what before BIGBANG ,and how particles are generated from nothing and acquire masses. If it is that large amount of energy generated during BIGBANG which created the particles and give them masses if it is so then from where this enegy comes. is it due to the the influence of some external power which we may call THE GOD?

That’s right — time itself does not exist before
then. The very line of time begins with that creation
event. Matter, energy, time and space were created
in an instant by an intelligence outside of space
and time.
The statements that you made above are peculiar to me. Would you mind explaining a bit further how something can “begin” (time) that requires time to exist before “begin” is possible. In other words how can God have a moment in time to create time if time did not exist before he created it. As I understand it, TIME is a product of the universe. At what “time” did God create the universe if time did not exist for him to create it. The question being: “God, at what time did you create time?” If he created time “in an instant” and God is infinite then at what “point” on infinity can an event take place?
Please expound. I really appreciate your input.

Is the Big Bang the beginning of time?

The world was created by on intelegence outside our space and time, the spirit and the Son are they witnessed that momented?
That we can’t explain, scientifically, the origins of the universe, does not automatically relay this responsibility to religion. During the times when the major religions were being built, humans couldn’t scientifically explain a small fraction of what we now know; some had ideas, such as Democritus and the atomic theory, but no way to qualify or measure data to prove scientific hypotheses in the way that we do today. The responsibility, then, to explain the origins and nature of life fell to religion; yet, observable, measurable results of the scientific method are eroding the ideas set forth by religious institutions exponentially. That we cannot explain beyond a shadow of a doubt the origins of the universe may only point to the fact that we haven’t yet the tools or frame of reference to observe evidence of the occurrence.
One cannot prove or disprove the metaphysical using science. Science bases its theories only in what is observable and measurable; were God a measurable scientific phenomenon, He would cease to be part of the metaphysical and would merely be natural, observable fact. Quoting this or that scientist doesn’t validate your claims or invalidate another person’s claims based on definitions; no matter how one chooses to define something in one particular book, pointing to a dictionary definition of a particular word doesn’t negate the observable fact beyond the words and definitions, nor does it prove a cause and effect relationship with a metaphysical being. You’re trying to prove too much with too little evidence.

hi im a student of nuclear physic at international university in iran and i have so and many question in my major but in iran some one doesnt pay much attention to this and im so sad about it please help me please mr marshall please i love my major please help me
does the inertia of the body is equvalent to the energy content of the body?
Dear Perry Marshall,
The chapter is about is there is a god who created universe, while comparing to science the religion and the modern science should be equal, for example Bible says that the earth is flat but when Galileo said its globe, the problem raised so there become a controversy, when i read quran it talks about big bang theory which is perfect to modern science, so irequest you to kindly check Quran and the science and explain about that in future wheather both are equal when Quran talks about space. (i m not supporting to Quran / Bible)
I should really bring it to our notice that it’s like we have forgotten the powers in the Word of God Almighty. I do not think that any deliberation could be remarkably be compared to the Word of God. Anything outside the words of the Bible does not explain life or the universe neither can it define the future of the earth. So I think we should forget this issues of DNA and the rest of them because God’s power is limitless.
