Did Charles Darwin Believe in God?

“Another source of conviction in the existence of God, connected with the reason and not with the feelings, impresses 330px-Charles_Darwin_seated_cropme as having much more weight. This follows from the extreme difficulty or rather impossibility of conceiving this immense and wondrous universe, including man with his capacity of looking backwards and far into futurity, as a result of blind chance or necessity.

“When thus reflecting I feel compelled to look to a First Cause having an intelligent mind in some degree analogous to that of man; and I deserve to be called a Theist.

“But then arises the horrid doubt– can the mind of man, which has, as I fully believe, been developed from a mind as low as that possessed by the lowest animal, be trusted when it draws such grand conclusions?”…

“I for one must be content to remain an Agnostic. “

  1. Hi Perry

    Thank you for the reply

    I hear what you say.
I would like to give you a little background of myself
I am 65 years young and have a broad general knowledge of communication because I was a Telecom technician on Carriers and Microwave
in my younger days. So when I saw your videos I fully comprehend what you said.

I was not only in ministry but 10 years ago I got involved in natural health and did my training on Physiology and Psychology
I made a study of brain patterns and also build a electronic device that can scan brainwaves and emotions and the effects on the human body
    holistically.

I was also trained in Electro- therapy and electromagnetic waves and their influence on the body, brain and heart.

I did some research on genetics and how it works with DNA and chromosomes

I also did thorough research on the Hebrew language it’s numeric values. I studied the Jewish religion and after all this decided to write the book on new
blood new genes . I must admit that it is more written for believers because I use a lot of scripture in it. I only printed a limited edition

Having said this I am semi retired now and is involved with Solar energy

I would like to take on your challenge to help find the code that proof design. It is not for me about the prize although an extra income would help at this stage but my main purpose would be to proof that this creation has the Trinity as it’s Creator.

You did mention on one of your videos that when you draw a circle around a system that outside the circle there is still the fact that you have to believe in the unseen Designer

I confess that I am a firm believer in God, Elohim in the Hebrew and His infallible Word and would like to proof creation through the power of the Word

Can you tell me what to do to accept the challenge and what are the conditions

    Kind regards

    Jan van Brummelen

    Perry,

I’m a retired computer programmer who started reading your book yesterday.

I’m already convinced that it should be required reading for anybody seriously interested in understanding how evolution actually works, and even more so, for groups of people participating in creation vs. evolution debates.

Groups such as this one, to which I belong:

    • Benito,

Thank you and let me extend my hand across the divide and welcome you to the Cosmic Fingerprints “de-militarized zone.”

I took a look at your Meetup blog – interesting. Skeptic evangelists. I appreciate you posting a note today. I hope to get to know you better.

        Perry,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I also hope to get to know you better.

God willing, I’ll be at that Villa Park meeting and will be speaking about why I think your book is so important. Today I mentioned it at a meeting in Anaheim with two of my ex-coworkers at the former Rockwell International.

        Perry,

There’s quite a few authors whose works I have encountered who also tend to think outside of the box, and I’m curious about what your opinions about them are. Are they reaching too far out of the box, perhaps?

        Some of those authors are:

        Jean Houston
        Rupert Sheldrake
        Ervin Làszlò
        Leonard Susskind
        Stanley Krippner
        Matthew Fox
        Jeffrey Mishlove
        Edgar Mitchell
        Frank Tipler
        Michael Murphy (Esalen Institute)
        Itzhak Bentov
        Arthur Koestler

        Benito

        • I’m only reasonably familiar with Sheldrake and Tippler. Sheldrake, despite being marginalized and condemned by the skeptic/atheist camp, actually has very reasonable things to say. He deserves more attention than he’s gotten thus far. I liked his book “The Science Delusion.”

I’m somewhat familiar with Tipler’s synthesis of physics with Christianity and it seems like a pretty respectable attempt, at least at first glance.

“There are more things on heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

Unfortunately can’t comment on the rest of them.

        Perry,

I find it interesting that, while Jerry Coyne won’t even read your book, Father George Coyne would probably agree with most or perhaps all of it:

In any case, Richard Dawkins might be beginning to have some doubts as to how unassailable his position really is…
